“One question that really shakes me, really shakes me — if God exists, why do poor people exist? Why does Hitler arise? I can’t give an answer for that. Only faith…. Yes, I do believe in an afterlife. Religion is a salve for confusion and misdirection.”

Thaddeus
That’s actually two questions.
Bobby approaches the difficulty presuming he knows what God’s purposes are and what God’s methodology in accomplishing those purposes should be. Maybe it’s based on his Catholic upbringing; I’ve found very satisfactory answers in Mormonism.
I also came upon an article in a Mormon magazine about atheism that I hoped you would comment on. Getting beyond the posture of looking at atheists as potential converts (which may or may not be offensive to you), what do you think about the categories of atheism? Where would you place yourselves and how united do you feel with those in other categories?
